This morning I strolled out of the Whole Foods in Central Square and literally stopped in my tracks. Right before my eyes was my Jennifer Garner walking into Whole Foods, holding a little two-ish year old girl. OMG! She of "Alias" fame (one of the last best girl-kicks-ass and saves-the- day tv shows), mommy to Violet and wife to Ben, a Cambridge native, is right here at Whole Foods. Jen and Ben No. 2 have spent a LOT of time in Cambridge over the last several years, but I have yet to run into her. Not for lack of trying! J, B & V spent the summer of '06 here while Ben shot "Gone Baby Gone", living in a house exactly 1.7 miles from my house. Any chance encounters in Harvard Square that summer, over which we would be sure to bond and become instant besties? Nope. So finally, today, we stumble into each other.
My eyes scan from her to the little girl as I think...what to say, what to say? The little girl is the right age...but is most definitely not Violet. Eyes scan back to Jen. I wish. While the resemblance is there, it is not Jen (maybe her sister, who reportedly lives in Boston? No way to know, and I wasn't asking!). I take a final glance, and head on my way to work, content that even if it was her, I probably would have said nothing and moved on.
I have that habit, when running into random celebrities (i.e. Kevin Bacon, Lauren Conrad, Ricky Paull Goldin), of being tongue tied and not being able to think of something to say that doesn't seem so... intrusive. Should I just fall back on the "Hello, I love your work" line? But that seems really lame.
When I ran into Ryan Phillipe in Fresh on Newbury Street (the spotting is only somewhat debatable...he had a hat and sunglasses on in the store and was with a blonde who was not Reese) I couldn't even think of the most logical thing to say, like "Hey, we're from the same town in Delaware." And maybe "We both know so-and-so!"
My best celeb convo was with Martin Sheen whom I met at church this year...but that's a story for another post!

was the Jennifer Garner-esque girl 8 months preggers? That would be a major clue :)
omg ryan philipe? I would've started stuttering
I don't think the doppelganger was pregs...but I was so stunned I didn't get a good look. The real Jen showed up on Celebrity Baby Blog today...she and her baby belly were at the Santa Monica Farmers Market today. She is definitely ready to pop!
Yep..Ryan Phillipe. My old roomie thought I was nuts that I froze and "forgot" that we are from the same town!
Jennifer Garner's fairly look-alike sister lives in/around Boston. I've seen her on Boylston Street many times and done a double-take almost every time. Could have been her.
